Episode Sixty-Four: “Here Comes the Son”
Original Airdate: May 13, 2003
Sand in the gears, Jess heads for Venice Beach to crash at his father’s place. But Jimmy doesn’t make him welcome—and neither does Jimmy’s girlfriend. Rory stresses our as graduation nears.
I have always kind of liked this episode just because it takes us to another part of the country for once. Although I love Stars Hollow and would live there if I could, it’s nice to get out for a bit. I love that Jimmy and his girlfriend have a ton of animals, and Jimmy’s record collection is insane. I actually kind of like Jimmy’s character. I know he ran out on Liz and Jess seventeen years ago, but he’s not a bad character. And Sasha is great too.
What I’ve never understood is why if Jess knows and is freaking out about having nothing, if he’s bothered by not graduating school or knowing what he wants to do with his life why doesn’t he change it? Why did he not go to school or apply himself more to turn it all around? It’s like “Uh, dude, you do have control over this, you just need to actually do the work.” And, I mean, he’s smart. He knows he can turn it around so it’s not like he doesn’t know what to do.
Once again, Lorelai is fighting with her parents and I hate it when they fight or aren’t getting along. I’m ready for them to make up and for everything to be back to normal again!
Luke Danes: I need to talk to you.
Lorelai: Come inside.
Luke Danes: No, she – Rory’s in there!
Lorelai: Since when are you scared of Rory? Cause seriously, Luke, I think you can take her.
Luke Danes: I just need to tell you something. Can she hear us?
Lorelai: Through the walls? No, I put some kryptonite in her waffles. We’re good.
Rory: I can’t finish all this and sleep at the same time.
Lorelai: You have to sleep. It’s what keeps you pretty.
Rory: Who cares if I’m pretty if I fail my finals?
Lorelai: Oh-kay. You’ve got this so completely backwards.
Jimmy: When you left home, were the cops after you?
Jimmy: No cause they shouldn’t be, or no cause they haven’t found the head yet?
Rory: Louise, what is your grandmother wearing to graduation?
Louise: Hopefully the pearls I get when she kicks.
