Gilmore Girls Project: Season Two, Richard in Stars Hollow

Season Two

Episode Thirty-Three: “Richard in Stars Hollow”

Original Airdate: January 29, 2002

Newly retired Richard is driving Emily crazy, so Lorelai agrees to fathersit for one day. Paris yearns to expose the corruption she’s sure is seething beneath Star’s Hollow’s sunny exterior.

There are several times in this show where even though Lorelai left them, her, her parents, and Rory are just a family who seem to have lived their whole lives without strife. The opening credits of this episode is one of these moments.

Emily: “We were just discussing who to move to the annex.”

Richard: “Oh. I vote for Cecile. Horrible woman, and those terrible jokes.”

I really like this episode . . . at least I do until Lorelai and Richard have their big fight. Ugh. I hate it when they fight and especially that fight, and I hate seeing Richard sad. Sure he has his moments of being out of line (a little), but he’s really just a big softy who wants to protect and provide for his family.

And can I just say that while it’s totally cool Dean built Rory that car, and it’s probably a car that some people think is cool and love, I think it’s ugly. I’ve just never cared for Dodge Lancers. But that’s my personal taste.

So what did you think of this episode?

Funny Quotes:

Louise: It’s just a contest, Paris. It’s not like you can win a car or a lifetime supply of rice-a-roni.
Madeline: God, I love that stuff.

Michel: (on the phone at the inn) As soon as I can, I will send someone up … Yes, I will … I understand … I understand … I understand … I understand … I understand … Okay … I understand. Goodbye. (hangs up)
Lorelai: What do you understand?
Michel: I have no idea. I tuned him out at the first screech.

Paris: Hey, where’d he come from? What’s up there? Is that where you keep the girls? You got yourself a little cat house up there?
Jess: Wow, I think she got you Uncle Luke. You better give up now.
Luke: Do not add to this insanity.
Jess: An innocent boy like me should not be raised in an atmosphere like this.
Luke: Jess!
Jess: I wanna be good, life’s just not letting me.
