Gilmore Girls Project: Season One, Emily in Wonderland

Season One

Episode Nineteen: “Emily in Wonderland”

Original Airdate: April 26, 2001

Rory and Emily’s tour of Stars Hollow provides the other woman with new insights into Lorelai’s first years as a single mom. Rootless Rachel wants to put down roots. Can Luke trust her?

I have to say for some reason I love this episode. From Emily doing business with Mrs. Kim (who doesn’t love that back and forth banter about the signed chair?), to having her excited about the tennis shoes and walking around Stars Hollow, to seeing Rune again because he’s the new handyman (he’s such a quirky character that just adds to the town), to getting a glimpse at where Lorelai and Rory stayed at the inn when Rory was young, it’s just an episode that has it all.

Not to mention, this is the episode where we get the first peek at The Dragonfly!

The only faux pas I came across is when Rachel asked Lorelai if she wore contacts and Lorelai said no, but in an earlier episode, when Lorelai is having a particularly rough morning, she tells Sookie “I think I put my contacts in inside out.” Hmm . . .

So what did you think about this episode?

Funny Quotes:

Rory: I’m sure you were a cute baby.
Emily: She was, she was very cute.
Lorelai 4…3…2…1
Emily…in most respects.
Lorelai: We have liftoff.
Rory: What does that mean?
Lorelai: Nothing.
Emily: I don’t see what the problem is. You certainly grew into it.
Rory: Grown into what?
Emily: As a child, your mother had an unusually large head.
Lorelai: The best thing about it was that she would tell me constantly. My first complete sentence was, “Big head want dolly.”
Rory: I can’t imagine it being that bad.
Emily: It wasn’t. It just affected her balance a little so. . .
Lorelai: Okay, can we please talk about something besides my formerly huge head?

Rory: My best friend Lane, her parents have this great antiques store in Stars Hollow.
Emily: Is that so? (To Lorelai) Why haven’t you ever told me about it?
Lorelai: Oh, I don’t know Mom. I guess it just got lost in my big head.
