Gilmore Girls Project: Season One, The Breakup, Part II

Season One

Episode Seventeen: “The Breakup, Part II”

Original Airdate: March 15, 2001

Tales of two loves: Rory attempts to overcome her loss by creating and tackling a daunting list of things to do, and Lorelai has a one-night relapse of her feelings for Max.

This episode was always one of my lease favorites. I just don’t really like the ones where Rory and Dean are broken up and it seems to affect the town and characters. I didn’t like it when Lorelai and Luke broke up either. Ugh. Just gave the whole show bad juju. I do, however, like that we are seeing Max again and that it looks like he and Lorelai are getting back together (of course I know this doesn’t last, but he’s there for at least a few more episodes).

I have to say I’ve always been confused with how Tristen acts at the party when dealing with Summer locking herself in a bathroom with someone else then later breaking up with him in front of everyone. The way he is at that party is so out of character than how he is in all the other episodes. Insecure, controlling, he goes from being this tough guy with Dean to a loser getting dumped in front of everyone. It’s just off.

I kind of wish his character had more moments of him actually being a normal human being like he is while him and Rory are sitting at the piano after the scene happened. If he’d acted like that more, I actually might have liked his character more.

So what did you think of this episode?

Funny Quotes:

Lorelai: Turn around.
Rory: Why?
Lorelai: 14 hours of labor, that’s why.

Lorelai: It’s 6:00!
Rory: I know.
Lorelai: It’s 6:00 in the morning.
Rory: Yeah.
Lorelai: It’s 6:00 on Saturday morning!
Rory: Do you want to wear Docs or sneakers?
Lorelai: I want to wear slippers!

Lane: (after meeting Paris for the first time) Wow, you didn’t exaggerate.
Rory: Paris needs no embellishment.
