Once again it’s that time of year! The time where I bang my head on the desk as I scroll through endless pages of different school books, the whole time asking myself the same questions over and over again: “Is this one good?”, “Will it work for what I want to do this year?”, and “Are we finally going to find a program, or mesh of programs, that will finally be the right fit for us?”
If you’ve followed my adventures in homeschooling programs over the last few years, you’ll know that when it comes to finding a solid fit for us, we’ve had several hits and misses. While I’m still hopeful that we will finally find what we need, I can’t help but still feel a twinge of doubt that once again I’ll end the year disappointed and back to square one. I suppose in the end, we shall see, and I really should have more confidence. I mean, isn’t that what we are supposed to do? To know that we are doing the right thing and we have it all “in the bag” so-to-speak?
Maybe one of these years . . .
Anyway, I’ve ordered several of the ones I think will work for us, and have liked what has arrived so far. I still need to order a good chunk of them, though, and about the only thing I’m dreading is the price tag. That’s a big OUCH every year. I know I need to work on getting more free supplies online, and I will, but for now, I’d like to have books I can hold on to and save for my youngest.
I haven’t quite figured out when I want to start the year, but once I get them all here and list out the number of lessons and pages then I’ll have a better idea. I really liked doing a more year around schedule where we would take a week break every six weeks and work through two months of the summer. While yes, we pretty much live at a friends house during the 100 degree months, I’d rather have them do a couple of hours of school when it’s too hot to go outside so that we can have more time and fun in the fall months when we can go outside.
Just one of the many things I love about homeschooling!
So my homeschooling followers, where do you get your school supplies? How long did it take for you to find a program that worked for you?
