Life as a Mom

All is right with the world….there is football on my TV #NFL #Ravens #RavensNation #footballforlife

th8GIJU5PISunday, August 9th, the Hall of Fame NFL football game aired on NBC.

Then, just yesterday, Thursday, August 13th, Preseason started!

For those who don’t know I’m pretty much a football junkie. Only professional football, though. I’m very weird when it comes to college football. And, I mean weird as in I don’t watch it or follow it. Sure, I’ll go to a Sooner game if asked to go or given tickets, but I’d much rather go pro any day.

Yes, I know, weird. But, I don’t care.

Back to my point, it never fails, every year about mid January, the sadness starts in as the end of the season approaches. While I love watching the Superbowl, it’s also the means to the end of my relaxing Sunday ritual of yelling at the TV, scaring the dog, and confusing my kids. footballwithdrawals

Yes, the dreaded off-season…otherwise known as the dark time in my household.

I have a long history with football. I remember when I was younger and before I found the joy in watching the games, I always hated Sundays. Then when I was about 12 years old, my dad took me to a 49er game at Candlestick Stadium, and after that, I was hooked.

Fast forward several years, when I started working for the family business. My dad and his friends had a pool every year and certainly, I wanted to join. Yep, one little 20 something year old girl against a bunch of men. I remember that they all laughed when I joined.

Of course, they didn’t laugh after I kicked their butts that year, the next year, and the year after that, but I certainly did.

Anyway, as you can bet, I’m over the moon now that we have football sounds in the living room again!! CHEERS to the upcoming 2015-2016 season!! And, to my team, the Baltimore Ravens….LET’S KICK SOME BUTT THIS YEAR!!

  1. Totally understand! I’m a Steeler fan living in Indiana so I cheer for the Colts except when they play the Steelers. It breaks my heart that Troy has retired. Do you get that way when one of your favorite players ends their career? I remember going through the same thing when Swann and Ward left. At least I get glimpses of them as broadcasters:)

      1. Oh!!! A few years back when the Steelers came to Indy for a play off game vs. the Colts My husband and I had to watch the game on two different tvs on two different floors of our house—-it was a great win for my Steelers and they went on for the Superbowl win that year.
I used to work all of the Colts home games at a concession stand for my kids’ swimming. I worked the Superbowl as well and cheered for Eli over Brady! Bad blood between the Colts and the Patriots. You thought Steelers vs. Ravens were rivals….yeah, that is a nasty one but the Colts and Pats come very close to truly hating each other. The fans in Indy are very different from Steeler fans. I think it is because we have a closed stadium. Outdoor fans are so much more…I don’t know how to say it…die hard football fans???
Love that the season is finally here:)

  2. Amen. Lori and I are the same way. It’s a sad, sad day when we realize the “dark times” are once again upon us. (Although, as a self-appointed spokesman for the relatives … we’re positively shocked by your support for that upstart eastern team. 49ers faithful! … LOL).

  3. Ravens fan? I would not have guessed that. I know you had a giveaway for my memoir anthology, but if you read it, there was a short story in there about my love for football. It was all about bonding with my dad. My interest started at age 12, too. When I first married into a family with all boys, I was not too welcome on football Sundays. My husband’s brothers were nasty to me the year I went with them to a live Bears vs. Bucs game. I let them know I knew more about (pro) football than all of them put together.

Moving to Florida was not going to stop me from watching my Bears. I made my husband by one of those gigantic yard satellites so I could watch them. This was before the Sunday Ticket, and we got all the games for FREE!

This is my first football season back home with DA BEARS! Yay. Nice to know I have a fellow football sister.

    1. I have a few of those stories, too. Knowing more than a man about football. Lol. One of these years, I’d love to get the Sunday ticket, but alas our budget just hasn’t been able to open for the price tag. Maybe someday. I will say moving helped. Although, I am close to my #1 hated team, Dallas, so I do have to watch a few too many Cowboy games for my taste. Bleh.

  4. I love football season too! I anxiously await it’s arrival (the Broncos first preseasn game was last night) and I can totally relate to the darkness of January bringing the end of football. It’s like seeing a friend leave for several months.
